The tour begins with a journey to the vibrant city of Glasgow to pick-up the city highlights. Situated on the River Clyde, Glasgow is the largest city in Scotland and is described as one of Europe’s most vibrant and dynamic cities. Here you can take in the sights of St Mungo’s Church - one of Scotland's most magnificent medieval buildings, and adjoining Necropolis - the cemetery is a fascinating place to visit offering great views over the city. We also view George Square with its fine Georgian architecture.
Moving on, we make our way to the city of Stirling, which has long been described as the "brooch which clasps the Highlands with the Lowlands". This is a wee city with a big history - once a favoured place of residence for the Royal Stewarts, knights, nobles and foreign ambassadors once flocked to Stirling Castle to revel in its grandeur. We will pause for a picture before visiting The National Wallace Monument.
We visit the National Wallace Monument to hear about the Battle of Stirling Bridge and view the battlefield where William Wallace (Braveheart) defeated the might of the English army in 1296. View Wallace’s legendary battle-sword and learn how the battle was fought and won, and how the weapons of the time were used by Scottish and English warriors. Climb towards the crown of the famous tower and be rewarded with the fine views over Stirling and the river Forth.
Our return journey takes us west and into Scotland’s first National Park. Standing on the ‘bonnie banks’ of Loch Lomond, we can view Britain's largest freshwater loch which is, in the opinion of many, it's most beautiful. Enjoy a picture stop on the shores of Loch Lomond with fine views to Ben Lomond in the north before we travel back to the port of Greenock, in plenty time for your ship’s departure.
